ADA Accessibility and Code Compliance
Code compliance is crucial to any building program, especially codes related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design. Historic and renovation projects often do not meet current code requirements. Our expertise in this area is critical for helping clients determine where they need to begin in order to bring buildings into compliance. Our team can provide on-site building measurements and reconnaissance, production of as-built conditions, and construction documents which will bring buildings into compliance.
Feasibility Studies
Often, there can be uncertainty relative to the need for building new facilities or renovating existing facilities. Existing and aging buildings may not be serving the needs of their occupants in terms of space, technology, and energy efficiency. In these circumstances, the benefits and cost of building a new facility may outweigh the expense of investing in extensive renovations. When there is uncertainty about which option to choose, a feasibility study can examine the positives and negatives relative to function, energy efficiency, and overall building use. We can also examine the feasibility for the construction of new structures in terms of potential use to a community or governmental agency.

The preservation of historic properties is critical to providing a link to places of historical significance and cultural meaning. Within every community, structures and buildings which created the foundation of the social and economic fabric of that community are often treasured; however, they may also be neglected due to age and cost for continued maintenance. Preserving and restoring a property with cultural and historic significance can be complex if the entity is seeking to place the property on the National Register of Historic Places. Studio 8 Design has experience in providing assessments and in meeting the design and construction requirements to enable placement on the National Register of Historic Places. Historic buildings may also be adapted for new functions with modifications which preserve historic elements. This often breathes new life into old, unoccupied buildings.
Landscape Design
Well-planned landscape design can create a sense of place and can provide a welcoming and inviting element to a building. Providing appropriate trees and plantings can help visually enhance and soften the terrain and can offer a positive and visually appealing experience. We can provide landscape design services for parks and natural resource areas including both landscape plantings and hard-scape features such as benches, pavers, sidewalks, water features, lighting, and playgrounds.
Affordable Housing
Studio 8 has a technical team with over 20 years of experience in meeting application and code requirements for affordable housing projects including Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) projects. Our team provides the necessary architectural work relative to applications for funding. Upon award, Studio 8 provides comprehensive construction documents meeting all code requirements of State and Federal agencies including HUD, USDA Rural Development, and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Our affordable housing projects have won several EarthCraft sustainable design awards.
Renderings & Models
Renderings and models are used to help clients visualize the exterior building aesthetics relative to their projects. Interior space layouts can also provide insight into interior circulation and how a building will function for its occupants. Computer generated renderings and models can save clients time and cost by providing them with the ability to visually visit their project and make changes before construction begins.
Sustainable Design
Sustainable design begins with thoughtful consideration of a building's design impact on the environment. We inherently approach every building project with responsible planning relative to its environmental footprint. Critical elements in the overall design process can have enormous impacts on the comfort of a building's occupants as well as the building's long-term efficiency. We examine each project and evaluate the usefulness of various energy saving methods and materials, and where appropriate, we specify these options to gain maximum value for our clients.
