Berkeley County Detention Center

MONCKS CORNER, SC - Studio 8 worked closely with the Detention Center Administrator and other key personnel in Berkeley County to develop solutions to their specific requirements for the facility. The primary issue driving the project was lack of capacity in the existing detention center.

The addition consists of new housing for 394 inmates, a new clinic/infirmary, intake and booking with nine (9) single cells and two (2) bio isolation cells, staff facilities and rear entry. The housing is designed for indirect supervision and includes 4-bed and single cell maximum security.

The site available for the addition is limited resulting in a 4-level housing tower with one-story booking and infirmary. The new Entry Building will provide for general public access and will include a central control room serving all electronic systems for both existing and new buildings.
